Having It All

Having It All

There once was a woman

Who had it all

But misplaced it

She searched everywhere

To find what she knew she had

She looked in her husband’s eyes

They did not reflect her

She searched her children’s hearts

But saw nothing of hers

Turning her friendships over

She found only their need

Trails of paper

Led her nowhere

Frantic, she searched through

Drawers, closets, and photo albums

All overflowing with nothing

Exhausted, she sat

Disheartened, she closed her eyes

Then she saw it

All of it

Within herself lay all she owned

She should have remembered

She used to know

The rest is only borrowed
